Let me start of by saying, I am a fan of Drake. After hearing So Far Gone and the amazing lyrics from him and Weezy, i was sold.
“Thank Me Later” is very much so a Drizzy album. No Wayne here, so while some of the incredible intensity is absent from this album, its still very entertaining to hear Drake talk of his stories of past loves and past beefs.
We all come for the lyrical content, and he delivers. With the witty flow we all know and love. The start of the album has a smooth atmospheric sound and melodies and continues to walk the line of mellow smooth with hard knock beats as it intensifies all the way up until the last song “Thank Me Now” which surprisingly is produced by TImbaland, brings it back to a slow chill feel seems an appropriate song to end with.
Songs to check out, besides the already released singles:
“Kararoke” is a nice change to the album as Drake sings about a love that wasn’t for the spotlight.
“Unforgettable” is hot, thanks to a smooth but hard knock track sprinkled with Aaliyah’s vocals that Drake’s flow fits perfectly.
“Fancy” with Swizz Beats Alicia Keys and T.I. is banging bounce track along with “Miss Me” bringing some of that So Far Gone feeling back.
“Light Up” with Jay-Z is classic. Drake truly shines on this track showing he’s there with the best of them
While its not the perfection that So Far Gone is, this is a solid album you can listen to if your an R&B and Hip Hop listener, sometimes with an open mind to something sometimes alittle different, with great lyrical content and cleverly told stories of past loves that all can enjoy.
